(Roll over image to show findings)

Quality

  • PA Projection - PA(scapula retracted)
  • Rotation - spinous processes (orange line) not central between clavicles (green lines)
  • Inclusion/Inspiration/Penetration - adequate

Findings

  • Massive right pleural effusion with - 'white out' - 'meniscus sign' (arrow)
  • Mediastinal shift? - assessment difficult due to rotation - but the right main bronchus is displaced (asterisk)
  • Cannot comment on heart size - as right heart border not visible

Interpretation - Image 2

(Roll over image to show findings)

Quality

  • Projection - PA
  • Rotation/Inclusion/Inspiration/Penetration - all adequate

Findings

  • Chest drain in situ (red tube)
  • Pneumothorax (*) - no evidence of tension
  • Residual effusion with 'meniscus sign' - one edge appears horizontal (orange line) due to direct interface of pleural fluid with air
  • Correct term therefore 'hydropneumothorax'
  • Cannot comment on heart size - as right heart border not visible
