Quality

  • When the abnormality is obvious don't waste too much time assessing image quality
  • Rotation - none - the spinous processes are central between the clavicles (orange)

Findings

  • Heart size cannot be assessed
  • Very dense opacification of the left hemi-thorax without 'air bronchogram'
  • Well defined border between aerated lung and a pleural effusion ('meniscus' - red line)
  • This is a very large pleural effusion with shift of the mediastinum to the right (arrows)
