  • If a scaphoid fracture is suspected clinically then the patient should be treated as such even if the standard series of X-rays shows no fracture

  • These 2 individuals have transverse fractures of the scaphoid waist
  • The fracture on the left is more easily seen because it is aligned with the X-ray beam
  • The fracture on the right is less easily seen because it lies obliquely to the X-ray beam
  • Many scaphoid fractures are invisible on all 4 scaphoid views
