Phrenic nerve palsy

  • The trachea appears to be deviated to the right (small arrow). In fact it is distorted by a large left superior hilar mass. The mass has invaded the phrenic nerve, leading to elevation of the paralysed left hemidiaphragm (open arrow), with subsequent volume loss. The trachea is prevented from deviating towards the volume loss by the mass itself.
