  • Dislocation injuries of the thumb or finger joints often result in confusing appearances on one or more image
  • If you cannot clearly identify a joint line on one view (such as in this AP image) then check other views available
  • The red lines should be parallel to one another (lateral image)
  • X-rays are used to look for accompanying fractures
  • Normal sesamoid bones should not be mistaken for fracture fragments
